Prostate Cancer Stages
Dr. William Orovan discusses prostate cancer stages. The purpose of staging prostate cancer is to give an indication on the prognosis. Prostate cancer stages are classified by a T-N-M system, with T for Tumor, N for Nodal Metastasis and M for other Metastasis.
Lower prostate cancer stages have a better chance for cure. Tumors are classified as T1 through T4, with T1 and T2 being the most common stages treated at the HIFU clinic. If the disease is confined to the area of the prostate, even T3 stages are treatable by HIFU (and radiation, but not surgery). Once the prostate cancer is in the T4 stage, the disease responds poorly to all forms of treatment. This is why early diagnosis and regular screenings are important.
