POST HIFU Prostate Cancer Treatment
Post Prostate Cancer Treatment with Ablatherm HIFU discussed by Dr. Orovan
Dr. Orovan explains the post-treatment period of prostate cancer treatment by Ablatherm HIFU or High Intensity Focused Ultrasound. HIFU is a very safe procedure with fewer significant side effects than surgery or radiation. Recovery time is much quicker since the procedure is non-invasive and performed on an out-patient basis.
Two side effects that can occur are 1) delayed risk to normal voiding and 2) scar formation. A urinary catheter is inserted during the procedure, and is usually removed 14 days after the procedure. In some cases, patients may require the catheter for an additional 7-10 days. Scar formation occurs post HIFU, as it does post radiation and post surgery. The Ablatherm HIFU method is a safe option for treating prostate cancer, and damage to the rectum or other organs is very rare.
