Prostate cancer is the leading cancer among men in North America. Early screening and detection is important for men over 50, or younger men if there is a history of the disease in the family. Early stages of prostate cancer, where the cancer is confined to the prostate and has not spread to surrounding tissues, can be treated by High Intensity Focused Ultrasound. The lower the stage, the better the prognosis. Maple Leaf HIFU treats T-1, as well as T-2 organ confined prostate cancer. The procedure is done on an out-patient basis with fewer significant side effects than surgery or radiation.
